Herb de Provence is simply a French inspired mix of herbs. You can purchase different versions of Herb de Provence from the grocery store or you can make your own mix, fresh. There are many variations on Herb de Provence - this is ours.
  • Rosemary
  • Savory
  • Thyme
  • Tarragon
  • Lavender
  • Sage
  • Marjoram
  • Optional Herb: Oregano
  • Optional Herb: Basil
  • Optional: Onion powder (about 1/4 to 1 of each of the above herbs)
  • Optional: Garlic powder (about 1/4 to 1 of each of the above herbs)
  • Optional: Salt (about 1/8 to 1 of each of the above herbs)
  • Optional: Black pepper (about 1/8 to 1 of each of the above herbs)
Use equal amounts of rosemary, savory, thyme, tarragon, lavender, sage, and marjoram. You may also wish to add the herbs oregano and/or basil. Salt, onion powder, garlic powder and/or pepper (any or all of these optional elements) work well with this mix, but use only about 1/4 as much of the onion powder and garlic powder and about 1/8 as much salt and pepper as you do the other ingredients.
This is a great use for store-bought herbs from your pantry. Just make sure any of the ingredients used are finely chopped or ground.
If using fresh herbs from your personal garden (or purchased from the grocery store) - which we highly recommend - you will need to dry the herbs and grind them (food processor, coffee grinder or pestle and mortar).
Once you have all of your ingredients, simply mix them well and store in an airtight container.
Herb de Provence is great in all forms of cooking and is a favorite for chicken and fish.
